Description
Product:
Factory prepared, natural white dry powder lime mortar with eminently hydraulic additives and produced according to EN 998-1. Lime based, fine grained contact mortar for manual and machine application for external and internal use. Part of the Baumit Klima range of products for healthy living.
Coverage per bag: 1.8 m² per 25 kg bag (based on a 10 mm application)
Use:
Lime based contact mortar: Universal, fine topcoat finish over all standard basecoat renders/plasters excluding gypsum based plasters.
Suitable for use in internal and external areas and particularly developed as a bonding mortar onto difficult substrates.
A range of finishing techniques including plain finely sponge floated, spraying, slurrying or freestyle texturing can be used.
Baumit Klima RK 70 N can be used as a keying coat to prepare substrates to receive lime based plaster and render coatings.
The product may be used as a topcoat finish in the plinth area subject to the provision of a gravel drainage system and if waterproofing measures have been completed before backfilling.
Composition:
Sand, lime, hydraulic lime, trass lime and additives to improve workability and adhesion.
Properties:
A pure lime plaster which fulfills the physical and biological considerations within the built environment.
Easy to use contact mortar with a range of uses.
Once cured, the product has good bonding strength, is water vapour permeable and resistant to weathering, water ingress and frost penetration.
For use in external and internal areas.
Yield:
8.9 m2/sack (nominal 2 mm thickness) 21 l/sack
Consumption:
1.4 kg/m2/mm
Substrate:
Substrates must be sound, clean, dry, free from frost, dust and efflorescence.
Basecoat renders should be fully cured. Any cracks are to be scraped open with a pointed tool to form a V groove.
High suction substrates must be dampened with water.
Very smooth substrates surfaces should roughened or pre-treated with Baumit Haftmörtel HM 50 contact mortar. Friable basecoats must be pre-treated with a stabiliser such as Baumit ReMineral/PutzFestiger.
Application:
Mixing: Baumit Klima RK 70 N can be mixed with clean water in a tub to a lump free, creamy consistency with an electric hand mixer. Material which has started setting must not be remixed with water. Mixing with other products (e.g. anti-frost agents or accelerating agents) is not permitted.
Automated continuous horizontal mixers may also be used. For small areas the contact mortar can be manually applied. For larger areas the freshly mixed mortar can be fed into a mortar pump for spray application. Alternatively, a mortar mixing pump will provide an all-in-one mixing and spraying solution.
Topcoat finish: Baumit Klima RK 70 N as a fine topcoat finish plaster is applied onto the basecoat and smoothed out flat with a trowel or spatula to a min. thickness of 2 mm. Upon setting the surface can be lightly rubbed over with a fine sponge float in tight circular motions to produce a fine, plain finish. A particularly smooth finish can be achieved by applying another thin coat of the contact mortar the following day. Other finishing techniques such as freestyle texturing, soft brushing etc. are also possible. A paint finish may be applied if required.
Preparation of render and plaster substrates: Baumit Klima RK 70 N is applied to a min. thickness of 5 mm (with embedded Baumit StarTex reinforcing mesh where necessary) and the surface keyed with a stiff brush or plasterer comb. Allow to dry for 1-2 days.
